BOUT 1: BW – LOURENS BOTES vs. BILL THUSI
That was quick… less than 2 minutes into round 1, Botes took it to the ground, & quickly got a Submission by armbar.
BOUT 2: WW – LYLE KARAM vs. MARCEL TENIERS
Round 1: Karam charged in from the get go & took the fight to the ground, where they stayed for the duration of the round. Karam absolutely dominated on the ground, almost locking in an ankle lock.
Round 2: Karam stuck to his game plan and charged straight in, to practically tackle Marcel to the canvas. From there he worked his ground game flawlessly, to gain the full mount & take the win by TKO due to GnP.
BOUT 3: HW – ELVIS MOYO vs. LANCE CERANIO
Round 1: This was Moyo’s round, without a doubt. Ceronio looks chubby & unfit. He looked to have gassed half way through the round. Moyo dictated proceedings & dished out a boxing lesson. Ceronio was saved by the bell, as Moyo unloaded on him for the last 8 seconds of the round.
Round 2: Evis Moyo easily took the win early in the round by TKO. This man is all business. He has incredibly quick hands for such a big man!! Ceronio never looked like he had a chance in the fight and at a stage in the round, looked like he was surprised to be getting hit, almost as if he didn’t know where the punches were coming from.
BOUT 4: LW – ALAIN ILUNGA vs. SYDNEY MOKGOLO
Round 1: Alain took it to the ground, where he showed some very decent skills, getting a Triangle, an Armbar & even a Guillotine Choke, but was unable to quite finish.
Round 2: Alain, again, took it to the ground. From there he remained in side control for the entire round & gave a demostration in the perfect elbow strike. Sydney had no answer & it was all he could do to stay in the fight.
Round 3: Alain stuck to his game plan & took it straight to the ground, where he spent almost the entire round in full mount, raining down more elbows. It was telling that he was unable to finish Sydney, although that might have had something to do with the fact that he dislocated his shoulder. The Winner: Alain Ilunga, by Unanimous Decision.
BOUT 5: CATCHWEIGHT – IAN VISSER vs. DANIE VAN HEERDEN
Round 1: No holding back here. They came out swinging & a good while trading hammers before Visser took it to the ground. This proved to be his undoing. Although he initially got Danie’s back, Danie quickly reversed it & gained his back, from where he pummeled Visser into submission. Danie van Heerden took the win by KO. We wanted a war & by Jove, we got one!
BOUT 6: WOMEN’S FW – ZITA VARJU vs. DANELLA ELIASOV
Round 1: WOW!!! These ladies can bang!!! Eliasov tried to shoot for an early Take down & paid for it by eating a barrage of punches. When she did eventually get it though, it was one-way traffic. She worked her ground skills flawlessly, to gain mount & administer some vicious Ground & Pound, before trying for an Armbar & then finishing with more GnP. The winner of the very first women’s bout in the EFC, Danella Elliasov, by TKO in 4:59 of the 1st round!
BOUT 7: HW – RICKY MISHOLAS vs. CYRIL ASKER
Round 1: Ricky spent most of the round with Asker clinging to his back & pummeling him from there. Asker looks to have a competent ground game.
Round 2: Well, well, well… There’s nothing better than a HW fight where they’re not afraid to bang!! And these 2 can bang! They traded blows multiple times, before Asker took it to the ground & rained blows. When they stood, Asker took a knee to the groin, but recovered quickly, to take it back to the ground. There, he gained the mount & when Ricky turned his back, he accidentally landed an elbow to the back of Ricky’s head.
Ricky took as long a break as he could, even convincing the ref that the doc needed to come in and check him, before he would continue. When he did continue, though, it was as if he just needed a rest. His attack was short-lived and Asker took it back to the ground.
Round 3: Although full of action & HUGE punches, this fight was quite repetitive, with Ricky throwing 1-2 combos & Asker laughing them off, before shooting for the TD. This was punctuated by Asker taking another knee to the groin. By the end of it, both men were cut up & Ricky was desperately trying to end it with a 1-punch KO. It went to the judges, however, and they gave the win to Cyril Asker, by Unanimous Decision.
All in all, it was a great display from both men and surprisingly, Asker entertained the crowd with some pushups while waiting for the judges decision.
BOUT 8: LW – THEMBA GORIMBO vs. ALEX CHEBOUB
Round 1: If you blinked, you missed it!! Alex took it to the ground and that was his first and only mistake!! Gorimbo got the upper hand & locked in a Guillotine choke, to take the win by Submission, in under 2 minutes.
BOUT 9: FW – TUMISANG MADIBA vs. MATT BUISKI
Round 1: After an initial exchange of straight punches from Madiba & hooks from Matt, they went to the ground, where the advantage see-sawed.
Round 2: Another round that started with a flurry of blows, but quickly went to the ground. This round, however, it was Matt that dominated there, with Madiba defending desperately!
Round 3: Early on, Madiba attempted a Standing Guillotine early in the round. Matt escaped easily but took a knee to the groin for his troubles. Madiba upped his game ten-fold in this last round, taking it to Matt, both standing and on the ground, but it wasn’t enough, as he was unable to finish Matt off. The judges gave the win to Matt, by Unanimous Decision.
BOUT 10: MW – DARREN DANIEL vs. DRICUS DU PLESSIS
Round 1: For all the action that this fight had, you’d swear that it was a 3 rounder!! Dricus was keen to have this out on the ground, but couldn’t quite keep Darren down there! Within the 1st 20 seconds of the round, Dricus got a standing Guillotine Choke. It took Darren 2 attempts & a body slam, to escape it! On the ground, it wasn’t all one-way traffic, with Darren locking in a Guillotine Choke of his own, later in the round. It was Dricus’ grappling skills that won out, though, & saw him take the win by Submission to a Rear Naked Choke, after a wild scramble, that saw him gain Darren’s back.
BOUT 11: WW TITLE BOUT – ADAM SPEECHLY vs. DAVID BUIRSKI
Round 1: One round is all it took to confirm the Welterweight Title Curse… Halfway into the round, after a tentative start from both men, David Buirski unleashed the most vicious barrage of blows this writer has ever seen in the cage, to knock Speechly out and take the belt, to become the new Welterweight Champ in the EFC.
BOUT 12: LW TITLE BOUT – LEON MYNHARD VS. DON MADGE
Round 1: 3:08 is all it took… Madge was testing Leon with kicks & Leon was replying with range-finding jabs, when Leon closed for a takedown. He almost performed a suplex to get Don to the ground & locked in a Guillotine Choke that was so tight that Don tapped in less than 3 seconds! The Winner by Submission to a Guillotine choke, and STILL EFC Worldwide Lightweight Champ, Leon Mynhard!!
