About Me

My name is Guy Lazarus. I was born in Johannesburg, South Africa and at the tender age of 2 moved Cape Town. It is here in the Mother City I have grown up and had most of my experiences. My martial arts career began at age 7 with Judo. I quickly became rather obsessed as many kids do wanting to become the next Bruce Lee. I competed at a high local level and received my Provincial Colours for Judo. By thirteen, my family and I emigrated traveled to California, for a few months. That was when I became stagnant and just a regular lackluster awkward teen with no direction.

A few years on I am in grade 10 and have a few friends training at Dragon Power Muaythai, MMA & Fitness Centre. I was playing basketball for my school at the time (I know right? Me, the shortest of them all playing basketball, I think it was just my ego that carried me through it) so when it was winter I was completely sedentary except for the occasional skate boarding mission. So my mother dragged me down to this Dragon Power place, met Sifu Kru Quentin Chong and the both of us joined up. I started to get into it, but was rather hesitant about how far I wanted to go. I then went to watch my first fight night and that is when everything changed. I knew from watching those first fights, that that was what I wanted to do; and have never looked back.

Since my first fight at age 17 back in 2004, I have had mixed results. I have been reigning South African Muaythai Bantam weight champion for the years 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011. I have represented South Africa at the IFMA world championships during those respective years as well as having captained the team in 2010 & 2011. I have been able to bring back the bronze medal in 2004 & 2009. I at no point claim to be the best or anywhere near the best, although I am always pushing to get there. However I do feel I have a much larger experience base in Muaythai than most South Africans and that this will strongly be able to help me review and understand fights.
The aim of this blog is to promote Mauythai in South Africa. I am also very interested in MMA and will cover events and fighters where I feel it is relevant or they catch my eye for one reason or another. I will always try to be as truthful and honest in my thoughts about an event or fighter and I hope no one takes it as anything other than constructive criticism; as I am not out to attack anyone. I just want to see the sports grow as it they have in many other countries.
