EFC 26: Live results and play by play

13) Main Event – Heavyweight Title Fight – ANDREW VAN ZYL VS. RUAN POTTS

Round 1: That took all of 44 seconds!!! one hip toss, followed by an arm bar!!! Game over!!! The NEW Heavyweight Champ is Ruan Fanggz Potts!!!!

12) Main Card – MICHIEL OPPERMAN vs. HENRY FADIPE

Round 1: What a tactical display by both!! Henry initially wanted to keep it standing but decided to take the fight to Michiel. He even had Michiel’s back momentarily.

Round 2: WOW!!! It started with a flying knee from Fadipe….Which Michiel caught….He caught Fadipe in mid air!!! In slamming him to the ground, he took an elbow to the head, which opened a big cut on the top of his head!! This didn’t seem to faze him, as he was relentless in his pursuit of a win on the ground!!

Round 3: Michiel, again tried to take it to the ground. This cost him, as he took brutal punishment in his attempts. When it did go to the ground, Fadipe gained the mount & rained down heavy elbows, to knock him out & win by KO from GNP.

11) Main Card - LIAM CLELAND vs. JASON CULVERWELL

Round 1: They started cautiously, but when they did engage, Cleland was temporarily stunned by a big left. He took it to the ground, alternating between landing blows & trying for a submission.

Round 2: A fast paced round, with Jason defending for most of it, all on the ground. Liam showed supreme ground skills.

Round 3: This one was a standing war, with Jason refusing to go to the ground & pounding Liam every time he tried to shoot for a TD. Liam took a lot of punishment, getting cut above his left eye, & looking stunned in the latter part of the round. However, he kept going forward, taking everything, Jason could throw at him!!!With neither man able to finish his opponent & both men running out of steam, it had to be decided by the judges. They gave it to Liam, by Majority Decision.

10) Main Card – MATTHEW BUIRSKI vs. ABDUL HASSAN

Round 1: A hectic round!! Buirski cut Hassan early on, but no clear leader. This is shaping up to be a battle royale!!

Round 2: They kept it standing, this round, with Mat stalking Hassan for the duration. both men using their weapons of choice to full effect!! This was a striking war!

Round 3: What a close round & closer fight!!! Hassan was extremely strategic, in keeping Mat at bay with his kicking skills. Mat, on the other hand, practically chased his opponent down!! What a striking war!! Unfortunately, it went to the judges & they couldn’t decide on a winner – declaring it a split draw

9) Main Card – ALAIN ILUNGA vs. PETER NYIDE

Round 1: Nyide charged straight in from the get go, intent on neutralizing Ilunga’s legs! After a brief exchange, they went to ground. Nyide managed to land numerous hard punches, which Ilunga shrugged off!!

Round 2: This round was another ground battle, but not before Ilunga attempted a spinning back kick, which would have ended it, had it been successful.

Round 3: Nyide showed his power in his punches, but Ilunga showed how hard his jaw is!! This round was all over the place!! They stood & traded!! They engaged in tremendous ground battles!!! Whether standing, or on the ground, Nyide outworked & outclassed Ilunga, to take the win by unanimous decision.

8) Under Card – FRANCOIS GROENEWALD vs. DONNOVAN WILKEN

Round 1: Groenewald had his game plan & stuck to it!! He took it to the ground, where he’s most comfortable & from there, worked his ground game, to take the win by a tap out to a Rear Naked Choke.

7) Under Card – BRUNO MUKULU vs. WADE HENDERSON

Round 1: Bruno shot early & slammed Wade to the ground, but Wade stayed calm & locked in a Triangle. Bruno refused to tap & spent the better part of 2 minutes trying to escape… Which he eventually achieved. This tired both men out, with the rest of the round much quieter

Round 2: This was almost a carbon copy of the 1st round, with Bruno Slamming Wade to the canvass, repeatedly, & Wade countering with another triangle…. The difference being that this time, Wade succeeded in making Bruno tap…eventually!!

6) Under Card – IGEU KABESA vs. JOHAN VAN STADEN

Round 1: Kabesa controlled the round, taking Johan down early & working away at him on the ground.

Round 2: Again, Kabesa preferred the ground. He had to shoot twice, to achieve his goal, though!! On the 2nd attempt Johan almost escaped again, but was dumped HARD onto the canvass!! That spelled the end for him, as Kabesa quickly went for his arm & forced Johan to tap.

5) Under Card – HANRU BOTHA vs. KANYEBA ANICET

Round 1: If you blinked, you missed it!! Botha worked to take the fight to the ground, but Anicet managed to stand it up twice….

The 2nd time, though, Botha landed a MASSIVE right hand, from nowhere, to know him out cold & take the wind by KO.

4) Under Card – SIBUSISO MDOKU vs. PIETIE COXEN

Round 1: After a cautious start by Mdoku, with Coxen throwing & landing hard blows early on, Mdoku took it to the ground & imposed his will on his opponent. This one was ended in the latter half of the round, with Mdoku raining down a barrage of blows, to get the TKO.

3) Under Card – THEMBA GORIMBO vs. CHIMMY VAN WINKLE

Round 1: Short & Sweet, ladies & gents!! Themba took it to the ground in the opening seconds & took the win in less than 2 minutes, through a tap out to an arm bar.

2) Under Card – MBULELO SWEKILE VS. NELSON FEITEIRA

Round 1: What a war!! Swekile came out swinging, but Nelson was quick to counter. They went to ground, with Nelson on top, but this counted for little, as he had to work to escape 2 arm bars & a triangle choke!!

Round 2: What a seesaw battle!! Early in the round, Swekile was floored with a massive blow, but recovered quickly, to take the fight to Nelson. They went back to the ground & proceeded to trade blows there!!

Round 3: With both men already fatigued at the end of the 2nd, no one expected as much action in the last, as we saw!!! Again, they went to ground quickly & stayed there for the most part. Dominance of the ground changed frequently & both men capitalised on their momentary advantages, to land a number of elbows. In the end, though it went to the judges, who gave the win to Feiteira, by Majority decision.

1) Under Card – CEDRIC DOYLE vs. BALDWIN MDLALOSE

Round 1: That was quick!! Both men were willing to trade, and landed some big shots!! in the end, it went to the ground, with Doyle taking the win via a Guillotine choke, in the dying seconds of the round.
